Process
Task 1: Split into Groups and Choose Roles
Your teachers will split your class into groups of 4 or 5. Each member of the group will choose a role to help create the final report and presentation. No two members of your group can have the same role. The roles are:
Task 2: Research
Once you have chosen roles, it is time to begin researching. Note that ALL group members will be researching and writing. To begin, go to the resources tab and begin looking through all of the links provided on some different collaboration technologies. You must also use a search engine to find a few additional sources of information to complete your research.
Task 3: Make a Decision
After each member of your group has completed research, meet as a group and decide which technology you would like the company to use. Once your group has come to a consensus, take to your class blog and write about what you have learned so far, and which technology your group chose, and why.
Task 4: Begin to Write Final Report
After you and your group have finished with tasks 1-3, it is time to begin writing the final report. As a group, split the final report into smaller segments, such as a background section on the technology, how other people are using it, etc., and equally divide these segments among each group member. That is, each group member should be writing at least one segment. The segments should be long enough to have sufficient information for the company to make a decision, but not so long that it becomes boring to read. It would be a good idea for your group to use the technology you are endorsing for your project. When writing your segment, it's important to remember what you want the company to know about your group's chosen technology. The what? and the why? become the two most important questions that you will need to answer in your writing. You must also include any information you think is important for the company to know. As group members finish writing their segments, they should begin creating a presentation slide to go into the final report. Group members should only worry about placing text in on their slides. The graphics and colors will be added by the group's graphic designers.
Task 5: Final Report and Presentation Production
Once all group members have finished writing their segments, it's time for each group member to assume the role they chose in task 1. The compiling writer should begin placing each group member's segment(s) into one cohesive report. The presentation editor should begin compiling everyone's slides into one cohesive presentation. Graphic designers need to begin selecting and/or creating graphics to go into the final report and presentation. It is important to remember that most collaboration technologies allow for multiple people editing the same document at the same time. So, every group member can be working on either the report or presentation at the same time. If there is time, take to your class blog and write about how you are preparing for this group presentation, and if there have been any changes since your last blog post.
Task 6: Present Your Proposal
When your group has completed the report and presentation, the group will present their research and recommendation to the company to the class. Each student should present their own segment(s). At the conclusion of your presentation, make sure you give credit to each group member for the work they did. Be prepared to answer questions from the class about your topic.
Task 7: Reflect and Evaluate
Once your group has finished giving your report to the company, take to your class blog and write about what you have learned from this process, your strengths, and maybe some things your would do differently next time. You will also grade your work on the project, as well as your group members work. The link to grade each other is in Moodle. Make sure to create a PDF version of all your work and submit it to Moodle using the evaluation button.
